Annual Meeting 2011 surpasses all goals!

A crowd of over 120 helped the Boston Cyclists Union elect a new board, eat food and drink beer on August 25th

Frankly, for our first annual meeting we were hoping to simply break even. Our friends in the biz had reminded us that many organizations lose money on their first big fundraising event. But even with showers forecast, the enthusiasm of people who love to bike in Boston shone through gray clouds last Thursday and the first Annual (Party) Meeting 2011 surpassed every expectation. It was a resounding reaffirmation of our mission to promote  the bicycle in every way we can.

In addition to electing a fantastic new 16-person board (whom you can meet below) the union welcomed near 120 guests to food, drinks and prizes provided by over 20 sponsors, and altogether we raised close to $3,500 for better biking!

If there is one thing this event taught us, it is that cycling has more friends in Boston than anyone realizes. And many of those friends are truly amazing at what they do. Boston Cyclists Union members experienced that first hand by eating jerk chicken from Lorenz Island Kuisine in Dorchester, sipping on Pretty Things Beer from Cambridge and Sam Adams from Boston, and finishing it off with cupcakes from the South End Buttery, among many other treats. This outpouring of support both from our members and our business friends was overwhelming, and we thank you all for helping out and for showing up-amidst impending rain showers no less
