Park(ing) Day
September 20, 2019
For Park(ing) Day we be on the corner of Cambridge Street and Garden Street as well as in Jamaica Plain in front of City Feed (on the corner of Green and Centre Street).
Park(ing) Day first started in San Francisco in 2005 as a way to re-imagine and experience new uses for parking spaces with people filling meters and using parking spaces for new, creative, people-centered uses. The day allows people to challenge the assumption that public curb space is designed first and foremost to park private vehicles. In recent years Park(ing) Day has been celebrated internationally (and in neighboring, Cambridge) and now for the first time in 2019, Boston is joining the fun! Residents and organizations will be able to reserve parking spots on September 20 through the Boston Transportation Department (BTD) and hold pop ups.
The Boston Cyclists Union is working with the BTD to create a pop up bike lane somewhere in Beacon Hill and we will need volunteers to help set up the lane, take it down, and table with us in between. Volunteers will pass out candidate questionnaires about City Council candidates, take pictures of cyclists with the I Bike, I Vote sign, give out lights and stickers and talk to people about getting involved in BCU’s organizing campaigns. Sign up in the link to volunteer!
