I want you to win a new bike!

Dear Friend,
In the spirit of Bike Month, we’re giving away a free bicycle to one lucky person who donates to or joins the Bike Union in the month of May. It’s our small way of thanking you all for your continued support toward making biking better in Boston.

SPRING UPDATES

As for that advocacy you’ve come to rely on us for, we are increasing staff and ramping up our efforts this year to bring even more power and authority to the bike voice in Metro Boston. However, with many critical campaigns coinciding right now, this unfortunately means we are forgoing a spring party. (Don’t worry, we’ll still have a big bash in the fall.) This was no easy decision to make. We love sharing beers, and getting jazzed about Bike Month and the season of bicycle traffic jams (!) with you, but we made the choice so that we can focus even more of our efforts on important advocacy and projects that have already shown significant signs of progress. We’re pushing for safer bike facilities on the Longfellow Bridge, campaigning for more money in Boston’s Bike Budget, building a campaign for protected bike lanes on Mass Ave between Roxbury and Dorchester, and planning the second annual Boston Neighborhood Bike Forum, to bring conversations and power to communities under-served by bike facilities, and underrepresented in planning and advocacy conversations.

While this means we will be more impactful in our immediate advocacy, not hosting a spring party also means we lost an opportunity for hundreds of you to renew your memberships or join the Bike Union for the first time. Now is your chance to help us make up for that gap. We hope you see the value of our work and are excited for our ambitious year ahead, and will renew your membership or join now for the first time. Even better, we hope you’ll share this message and excitement about our advocacy with at least two friends and colleagues, and urge them to join the Boston Cyclists Union. The basic membership is only $36, families join for as little as $52, and we even have a student and low-income membership for $25. Of course, anyone can donate more! Click here to join or renew.

Now about that free bike. Because it is bike month, and because we are connected to some of the best bike shops and businesses in the area, Wheelworks of Belmont & Somerville has generously donated a FREE BIKE that one lucky person will win. Anyone who donates or joins in the month of May will automatically be entered to win a new Cooper bicycle.Your donation could win you a free new bike, while also winning new and better bike facilities! A win-win, if you ask me.

The bike union is only as strong as its members, so we hope you will join, renew or donate today to help us continue organizing and advocating with and on behalf of you and everyone else who bikes in our city.

We encourage you to join us at the Boston Transportation Department Budget hearing on Tuesday, May 22nd (more information coming soon!).
I look forward to seeing you, with your bike month bikey-face on!
Sincerely,
Becca Wolfson
