Union’s first bike safety effort a success!

Union director Pete Stidman introduces speakers Galen Mook and Charlotte Burger at the first ever Keep Your Head Out of the Gutter bike safety event at the Ibex Clothing Store on Newbury Street.

Big thanks to our generous hosts at the new Ibex Clothing Store on Newbury Street and sponsors Boloco Burritos and Harpoon Brewery for a super successful bike safety presentation in Back Bay late last month.

On October 26, Union members Galen Mook and Charlotte Burger took a crowd of nearly 50 cyclists of all levels of experience through the Union’s brand-spanking new “Keep Your Head Out of the Gutter: A Cyclist’s Guide to Safely Navigating Boston” presentation.

Hitting on all the major points of bike safety in a way that keeps the audience awake, the presentation also highlights the need for mutual respect on the road and better communication between all road users.

Attendees were also treated to free burritos from Boloco and free beer from Harpoon, and Ibex donated 15% of all sales during the event. With those sales, sales of the fancy new Union T-shirt, and 10 new union members, we raised over $400 to continue our advocacy work! Thank you to everyone who came out!

If you didn’t make it to our event, there will be more! We are currently looking for institutions, groups and even individual house party hosts who are interested in having a Keep Your Head Out of the Gutter safety talk. Potential hosts can contact us at 617-620-1989 or pete@bostoncyclistsunion.org.
